Friday, 3/22, 8pm Deep Awakening: An Improvisational Piano Meditation with Susan Robbins

Deep Awakening
An Improvisational Piano Meditation inspired by the Spring Equinox
With Susan Robbins

Join Susan Robbins, Director of Third Life Studio, for a candlelit, musical meditation as she offers an evening of improvisations on the baby grand piano that now graces Third Life Studio.

As founder and artistic director of the internationally renowned women’s performance ensemble LIBANA (libana.com), Susan Robbins is widely known for over thirty years of groundbreaking performances of vocal and instrumental music from around the world. A multi-instrumentalist, she plays the oud, hammered dulcimer, saz, guitar, tambura, bowed and plucked psalteries, and is a respected singer, voice teacher and workshop leader.

During this time of the Equinox, she returns to the improvisational creative process on the piano—her first instrument—to invoke the quiet stirrings of awakening life, the promise of rebirth and new beginnings to be found in this ancient spiritual observance of the Earth’s turning, and the anticipation of warmth, growth, and expansion that comes with the returning, and increasing, light.

Feel free to bring a meditation cushion, or if you prefer, a sleeping bag to wrap up in if you wish to lie on the floor! Chairs with seat cushions will be available, and light refreshments will be offered afterwards.

Tickets: $15 at the door | For more information: email srlibana@gmail.com

OEN KENNEDY was weaned on West African and South Indian music, having spent his early years overseas. He has been writing songs since 1969 covering manifold subjects, especially love. Besides birds, which are a long- standing, chronic source of joy, his obsessions include tunnels (especially underwater tunnels), Bach fugues, vortices, Sequoias, Blue-black spider wasps, Vincent Van Gogh, Sea Otters, tsunamis, Mandelbrot Images, Armadillos, and perpetual motion, Oen believes that the greatest truth is compassion, but that the universe is older than truth.

"More than any other artist I know, Oen''s music is his vocation in the truest sense of the word. With his miraculous spirit and joyously beautiful music, he gives voice to the subjects of his song, whether it is a young injured bird, a wolf in the wilderness, a friend in need, or the earth itself. And when he opens his mouth to sing it is as if there was something beyond him that is singing through him. He is the most efficient instrument for transmitting joy that I have ever witnessed." JOHN BOEHMER

For twenty five years DEAN STEVENS has delighted audiences of all ages throughout the Americas. An exuberant performer of distinctive style and wit, he combines an intricate, self-taught guitar style with a versatile and expressive singing voice. He has established himself as a formidable creator and interpreter of a wide spectrum of songs in English and Spanish. His own material explores a variety of personal and social topics, paints sketches of people and places, celebrates the Earth, and annoys the narrow minded.

Born and raised in Costa Rica, Dean Stevens is a lifelong student of Latin America. He learned Spanish at an early age, and readily absorbed the musical and topical influences of the region. He travels frequently to Central America, and has become known for his humanitarian efforts on behalf of refugees returning to their homes in El Salvador and Guatemala.

"Seeing and hearing Dean Stevens live on stage is proof that sanity, literacy, love, hope, and the forces of good are still alive and well and at work in the universe. Losing your faith? Go to a Dean Stevens concert!" ~ Geoff Bartley

Embrace earth energy and cultivate stability, acceptance, trust, and gratitude in this physical asana practice. Ground and center yourself during the frantic holiday season. Learn energetic techniques for calming yourself and breath practices to ground your energy.

"The chakra system is an energetic and psychological map of where you are open and closed. From Root to Crown, these 7 wheels of energy run up and down your spine. Basic emotions, fears, and the past are held in these areas of the body. Yoga postures designed to open and balance these chakras will help you overcome and clear out these areas of tension and deep holding. Join me for each monthly session as we move through the chakras and into greater peace and awareness!"

Thursday, 12/6, 7:00-9pm. Contemplative Adventures: Crystal Singing Bowl Meditation & Toning with Joan Caplan

What a joy it is to relax, reduce our stress, let go of our tension and feel rejuvenated mentally, emotionally, and spiritually! The crystal singing bowls release pure, clear sounds which are calming, soothing, and nurturing. They are often called 'healing bowls'. The beautiful vibrations and cascading tranquility of their sound help us to center our energy, breathe more deeply, soften our muscles, and refresh our mood. The meditative healing of the crystal singing bowls resonates, expands and creates harmony. All the listener has to do is listen.

Joan will be playing the bowls while you rest, relax, and restore your inner harmony. Afterwards, recognizing that we are approaching the new year, with our thoughts turning more often to endings and beginnings, we will connect by using the resonating tones of the bowls to guide our toning and tuning together. We will create wordless sound together and discover where we are guided to move the sound next. The spirit of this time of year moves through us in our voices, as we blend together and then separate. You do not need to be a 'singer' to participate in this group experience.

Since retiring from her twenty-year psychotherapy private practice in order to bring musical sound into the center of her life, Joan has been immersed in studying, performing, and sharing the joy of music as an instrument of healing. Her experience as a therapist and musician, as well as her deep mindfulness, inspire her offering of the singing bowls. She creates a meditative atmosphere and is very sensitive to the needs and responses of the individuals listening.

Cost: $20. Pre-registration required. To register, please make check payable to Joan Caplan and mail to: Joan Caplan, 146 Walnut St, Newton, MA 02460. Please be sure to put 'Contemplative Adventures 12/6' in the memo line. Details provided upon registration.

Thursday, 11/29, 7-9pm Taketina: A Movement Meditation Workshop with Elaine Fong

Taketina*: Finding Inner Stillness in a Chaotic World
A movement meditation workshop with Elaine Fong

As our outer world becomes faster and more complex, do you find yourself becoming more stressed? Do you yearn for the chance to slow down, and focus from a silent place within yourself - to find your inner ground? Our daily to-do lists, current events, family obligations and the myriad responsibilities we "perceive" ourselves to have makes us easily lost in confusion and tempted to control the uncontrollable. However, when we find our inner ground, we can relax and focus in any situation.

TaKeTiNa (www.taketina.org) is a powerful process that can rapidly quiet the chatter in your head and bring you into connection with your inner core. Through vocalization, clapping and stepping you are guided into three separate rhythmic layers which directly affects your nervous system and brings a more clear and direct experience of the world. TaKeTiNa is a powerful tool for awakening one's ability to sense our inner ground.

For more information: email enf1234@att.net

Cost: $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
Please make checks payable to Elaine Fong and mail to: Elaine Fong, 68 Parkman St., Brookline, MA 02446.

Elaine N. Fong is a certified Taketina instructor with over ten years experience. She is also the founder of Odaiko New England, the first taiko (Japanese drum) group in Massachusetts.

* Taketina was developed by Reinhard Flatischler

Saturday, 11/17, 2-5pm Taiko Drumming Workshop with Elaine Fong

Ever have a secret yearning to pound on something other than a table? Here is your chance to break a sweat and bring out the “inner” drummer in you. Get a “taste” of taiko (Japanese drums) in this taiko class! You will learn how to play with ease, how to use your voice (kiai), and you will learn a taiko song! Taiko is as much about the collective and communal experience of creating rhythm as it is the personal satisfaction and joy of using your entire body and your senses.

No experience necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm. Class size is limited, so please register in advance! Taiko is a physical experience; wear loose and comfortable clothing. The taiko workshop will be taught by Elaine Fong (founder and former artistic director of Odaiko New England and Taketina rhythm facilitator).

Cost: $35 in advance/$40 at door. Please make check payable to Elaine Fong, and mail to: Elaine Fong, 68 Parkman St., #3, Brookline, MA 02446

For more information: email enf1234@att.net

Friday, 11/16, 7:30-8:30pm Empowered Voices: Fundraising event for Ugandan women

Empowered Voices: Fundraising event for Ugandan women

Would you ike to help kickstart a developmental project in Uganda? Ugandan women in the village of Kyakasangulu needs a hand to get their handicraft business started, so that they can take care of their families and uplift their community by investing revenues from the business into solving problems in the village.

Kyakasangulu is a typical poor rural community trapped in the vicious poverty circle: scarcity of food, inefficient agricultural techniques, lack of access to markets, low (if any) education, diseases and reproductive health problems, bad water and sanitation conditions, and gender inequality.

Kaley Sweeney and Lene Martinsen in Empowered Voices (a non-profit organization in Massachusetts) are travelling to Uganda in December to help the women start the handicraft business.

Please join us for this event! There will be awesome live music by Siddharth Mowgli and beautiful belly dance by Johara and the Snake Dance Theater. Enjoy some light refreshments and learn more about this project directly from Kaley and Lene.
Entrance $5/donations accepted Empowered Voices: www.empowered-voices.org

The voice is the primary instrument. It connects the space between the head and the belly, and acts as a direct expression of the self ~ communicating our emotions and our thoughts. It also acts as a bridge between our inner and outer worlds.

This workshop will be an exploration of voice and movement. As we sound into the depths of ours selves and our hearts, we allow for growth and the possibility of new life.

You do not need any experience to attend, only willingness. If you have a voice, you can sing

Saturday, 7/21, 2:30-5 Rhythm for Health & Transformation: Taketina Practice Group w/ Lillian Sober Ain

Rhythm for Health & Transformation:
Taketina Practice Group with Lillian Sober Ain

Lillian Sober Ain, assisted by Elaine Fong, will lead an afternoon Taketina practice
group, which is part of Lillian's training as a Taketina teacher. There will be no charge.

Please join us for a playful and meditative exploration of rhythm in a Taketina practice group, where you are invited to learn at your own pace and to participate in your own way. Within the shelter of a supportive group, you will be gently guided into expressing three layers of rhythm with your voice, your clapping hands, and your stepping feet. You will have the opportunity to experience how your mind and body are affected by this immersion in rhythmic sound and movement. No musical instruments or rhythmic talent are necessary for this process, in which beginners and advanced practitioners learn side-by-side. Taketina rhythm activities are designed for people at every stage of life's journey, whether you are in a peaceful place in your life, or faced with emotional or physical challenges. If you are a musician, Taketina can be a powerful way to develop a deeper understanding of multiple interlocking rhythms.

A wide range of experiences can emerge from this group expression of rhythm. Sometimes people find their minds becoming calm and quiet, or they develop a different awareness of their bodies' movements. They might notice themselves entering a state of deep relaxation, multi-leveled perceptions, or timeless spaciousness. In Taketina practice groups, we join together in a journey of rhythmic sound and movement, and the effects might be different for each of us. We invite you to be curious about what will unfold for you during a rhythm journey.

For more info, see www.taketina.com
Or contact Lillian Sober Ain, Ph.D., at LSoberAin@gmail.com.

Lillian Sober Ain is nearing the completion of a three-year Taketina Teacher training program, with her certification examination in August. She is a clinical psychologist with special interest in meditation and in the therapeutic effects of movement and rhythm. Performing in various ensembles, she sings and plays the piano, flute, frame drum, and other hand drums. She also leads interactive drumming workshops in a variety of settings.

Saturday, 6/9, 1:30-3:30pm The World in Harmony: A Vocal Workshop with Thom Whittemore

The World in Harmony: A Vocal Workshop with Thom Whittemore

Singing together in harmony is a powerful source of energy, connection, and joy. Experience the thrill of joining other voices while exploring our rich and diverse musical heritage. Together, we'll form a spirited choir, enjoying music styles from every corner of the globe: uplifting songs from sub-Saharan Africa; Native American chants; songs and rounds from world religious traditions; folk songs from other countries; and more. We'll practice the skill of holding our own part while listening to others, and, as a result, becoming a harmonious whole. Experience the joy and peace that permeates this amazing music, and gain a sense of synergy and interdependence we can use in our daily lives. No singing experience necessary—just a willingness to share your voice, your openness, and your enthusiasm.

The workshop will be led by Thom Whittemore, a singer, song leader, songwriter, and arranger who believes that everyone can sing - and should. He has been working with singers of all ages for 20 years, spreading the joy of making music and singing in community. He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Music and the Community Choir Leadership Training program in Victoria, BC. Thom lives in Cambridge, MA, and on Sunday mornings he can be found leading a very enthusiastic choir at First Congregational Church (UCC) in Somerville. Visit Thom on facebook: www.facebook.com/Thom.Whittemore.

Cost: $15-$25 sliding scale; pay what you can afford (Limited number of waivers available; contact Thom before the workshop date for more info.)

Early registration is greatly appreciated. Email twhittemore@gmail.com for more information.

Wednesday, 5/23, 7-9pm Taketina: A Movement Meditation Workshop with Elaine Fong

Taketina: Finding Inner Stillness in a Chaotic World
A movement meditation workshop with Elaine Fong

As our outer world becomes faster and more complex, do you find yourself becoming more stressed? Do you yearn for the chance to slow down, and focus from a silent place within yourself - to find your inner ground? Our daily to-do lists, current events, family obligations and the myriad responsibilities we "perceive" ourselves to have makes us easily lost in confusion and tempted to control the uncontrollable. However, when we find our inner ground, we can relax and focus in any situation.

TaKeTiNa is a powerful process that can rapidly quiet the chatter in your head and bring you into connection with your inner core.

Please make checks payable to Elaine Fong and mail to:
Elaine Fong, 68 Parkman St., Brookline, MA 02446.

Sunday, 5/20, 10:30am - 4:30pm Singing the Self ~ A Workshop in Voice Movement Therapy

Singing the Self
A Workshop in Voice Movement Therapy
Led by Christine Isherwood and Mali Sastri

A workshop of exploratory voice and movement.
The voice is a unique instrument ~ the player and the played-upon are one. As it connects the space between the head and the belly, it acts as a direct expression of the self ~ communicating our emotions and our thoughts. It also acts as a bridge between our inner and outer worlds. This workshop will begin with an introduction to some of the core vocal and movement components of Voice Movement Therapy, leading into an exploration of our voices and our Selves ~ encountering ourselves as breathing, sounding, moving beings. As we voice down into the depths of ourselves, we allow for growth and the possibility of new life by breathing into, and expressing in sound, some of what resides inside the bodies, stories, and lives we inhabit. You do not need any experiences to attend, only willingness. If you have a voice, you can sing.

Space is limited ~ pre-registration is required.
Cost: $75

Sunday, 11/13, 10-11:30am Energy Medicine Workshop with Merry Henn-Lecordier

Energy Medicine for Optimal Health and Personal Power

Have you been curious about energy and how you can use it to improve your health, mood, performance, relationships? We all have strong electromagnetic energy in our hands that influences everything we touch, including the energies running through the body. Through testing you can assess where your energies are blocked and stagnant, then simply follow a corresponding protocol to release the block and restore flow and balance – and amazing things happen! Pain and chronic ailments subside, "stressful" events don't stress us out anymore, the present moment starts to take on the exquisite, high vibration of unconditional love and freedom.

Facilitated by Merry Henn-Lecordier, who is an Eden Energy Medicine, EFT & Reiki pratitioner, and a meditative dance facilitator.

Wednesday, 6/1, 7-8:30pm Journeydance and Zar Workshop with Linda Ugelow

Come spend an evening journeying in movement with
Libana's principal dancer, Linda Ugelow

Journeydance is an intentional flow of guided movement and visualization accompanied by a tapestry of eclectic music (including Libana's!). This process creates powerful, expressive dancing rituals that connect us to deep feeling states and ultimately bring us to a state of blissful presence. Embedded in this evening's Journeydance will be the Zar, a therapeutic healing dance originating from northeast Africa, that uses hypnotic movement to enter a state of trance and connection with spirit.

Linda's mission is to facilitate a safe and nurturing environment where self-love and acceptance are cultivated, and where the pleasure and power of movement inspire our joy and wholeness. Come travel this exhilarating and provocative journey, and release the passion waiting to express itself!

No dance experience necessary, just a love of movement.

Cost: $15

Tuesday, 12/21, 8pm A Winter Solstice Celebration with Metal & Glass Ensemble and Friends

Peter Warren: bowed metal ~ Randy Winchester: bowed metal ~ Thadd Comstock: metal & glass
Heather Townsend: glass ~Matt Samolis: flute ~ Michael Punzak: violin ~ Derek Beckvold: saxophone Valerie Thompson: cello ~ Steve Norton: bass clarinet ~ Tony Leva: contrabass ~ Jane Wang: contrabass

Metal & Glass Ensemble is a Boston-based improvisational group with rotating membership. We create acoustic drone-based music with bowed cymbals and other metal objects, and glasses tuned to a just-intoned 23-note octave. This just scale, employing whole-number ratios akin to a natural harmonic overtone series, is the only formal tuning used in the group. The bowed metal generates its own shifting but interrelated pitch classes, while the instrumental players contribute using a variety of microtonal intonations. In this way the music is liberated from the 12-tone equal-tempered octave, and explores a broad spectrum of harmonic relationships. The ensemble uses a structured improvisational scheme (such as a chart or graphic score) to give each performance a specific form. In some cases the structure is conceptual, expressed through verbal imagery. The music itself evolves gradually over time, often conveying a meditative quality.

Sunday, 12/19, 4pm THE WINTER SOLSTICE IN LEGEND AND SONG

This unique performance features unusual solstice legends from Greece (The Halcyon Days of Peace), Scandinavia (Legend of the Mistletoe), and England (Apple Tree Man). As darkness descends we'll travel through the time of the longest nights with story and music as our guides, enjoying Native American lore about the evergreens, haunting legends of light and humorous stories all set against a lush background of music on Celtic harp, synthesizer, accordion and voice.
Don't miss this electrically esoteric event!

It shares the stories of experts from all over the world who study and are able to harness the beauty and power of a respectful and mutually beneficial relationship with soil.

Friday & Saturday, June 4 & 5, 8pm The ishmaeLites' "Comin' Home to Indiana"

The ishmaeLites are a band that includes descendants of people who travelled in an annual route in the American Midwest in the 19th century. Going by the Indiana hamlets of Mecca and Morocco, passing the Illinois village of Mahomet, the so-called "Tribe of Ishmael" was among the first to settle Indianapolis--which was also their winter home. Due to their fondness for music and dance and the fact that they travelled in caravans, they were called "gypsies" by Main Street society. The real-life model for the character "Little Orphan Annie" was such a "gypsy" girl. In the 20th century, the caravans were stopped and the "tribe" disappeared. A new book, "Inventing America's 'Worst' Family," details how the eugenics movement turned the Ishmaels and others into a "race" that had to be exterminated. "Comin' Home To Indiana" is a theatrical cycle of 22 songs that tell the story of these nomads. James Fenimore Cooper and Booth Tarkington both put them into novels, but this isn't a work of fiction. Immediately after the Saturday show, the ishmaeLites will board a golden bus and travel to Indiana for a homecoming tour that has been a century in the making.

with Kim L. Sim, Ph.D.
AWAKEN THE POWER WITHIN, SELF-HEALING WITH KUNDALINI

In each of us resides the Core Self that possesses the Divine Knowledge to solve all life problems. When we lose connection to our surrounding, we lose our inner compass that directs us to fulfill our Life Purpose on Earth. Achieving self-realization by Kundalini awakening will reconnect us to the path that enables us to own our Divinity and become our own Masters. It allows us to embark on our spiritual path towards fulfilling our Higher Purpose or Divine Plan by connecting with All There Is.

FALL 2009
Monday, 12/21 8pm WINTER SOLSTICE with METAL & GLASS ENSEMBLE!

A Winter Solstice Celebration with The Metal and Glass Ensemble

Peter Warren: bowed metal, Heather Townsend: glass,
Thadd Comstock: metal & glass,
Randy Winchester: bowed metal, Matt Samolis: flute, Valerie Thompson: cello
Grant Smith: percussion, Vic Rawlings: cello

Tickets: $10 at the door

Sunday, 12/20, 4pm THE WINTER SOLSTICE IN LEGEND AND SONG

This unique performance features unusual solstice legends from Greece (The Halcyon Days of Peace), Scandinavia (Legend of the Mistletoe), and England (Apple Tree Man). As darkness descends we'll travel through the time of the longest nights with story and music as our guides, enjoying Native American lore about the evergreens, haunting legends of light and humorous stories all set against a lush background of music on Celtic harp, synthesizer, accordion and voice.
Don't miss this electrically esoteric event!
This performance is suggested for ages 12 and above.

$15 admission at the door.

Saturday, 12/12, 8pm CHORO DEMOCRATICO

Third Life Studio welcomes back Brazilian choro ensemble Choro Democrático!

Choro is a uniquely Brazilian musical genre that began to develop in Rio de Janeiro during the late 1800's as musicians combined European musical styles such as polka and waltz with lively local rhythms. Choro is typically played in a roda de choro (circle jam session), in homes, cafes or restaurants where anyone can join in.

Choro Democrático is a seven-piece ensemble that includes flute, bandolim (mandolin), violin, cavaquinho (treble guitar), six and seven-string guitar, and hand percussion. This Boston-based group has a devoted following of fans and has performed sold-out shows at the Regattabar, Ryles Jazz club, Harvard Art Museums, Middlesex Community College and Bridgewater State College and hosts an open roda de choro once a month at Luna Café in Cambridge, MA. Their repertoire ranges from standard choro compositions by Pixinguinha and Jacob do Bandolim to more modern works by Hermeto Pascoal and the group's flautist, Fernando Brandão. This show at Third Life Studio will also feature some special guest musicians.

SUMMER 2007

Saturday, 8/11   Vocal Workshop with Moira Smiley of VOCO
2-3:30pm Cost: $25

On Saturday afternoon after VOCO's concert at Third Life Studio, Moira Smiley of VOCO will be offering a workshop that is a truly unique offering of Conservatory training, ethnomusicological grounding and fierce creativity.  A strong teacher, Moira will work with improvisation, vocal technique, rhythmic interplay with the voice and using the body as an instrument.  Moira tailors a workshop to the level of its participants and makes use of Voco's work as an ensemble to break down and share the mechanics of creating music with other people with just the voice and body.

Don't miss this great opportunity to sing with this amazing and inspired singer!

Moira Smiley works internationally as a composer-vocalist. Based in Los Angeles, she leads her fiery roots vocal-band, Moira Smiley & VOCO, travels the world as a soloist in early and traditional music and creates new work with dance, theatre and film. Moira was born in Vermont, moved to Indiana to pursue a piano performance degree at IU School of Music, and finished with a degree in Early Music Vocal Performance, having studied voice with Thomas Binkley, Paul Elliott, Paul Hillier and Alan Bennett.  While at Indiana University, Moira toured with her vocal quartet, VIDA, singing a cappella folk song from Eastern Europe and various other vibrant harmony traditions. VIDA was represented by IMG Artists, recorded three CDs of traditional and original songs, and had an exciting seven year career that culminated in concerts at Lincoln Center and other prestigious fine arts and folk venues in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Moira’s mother tongue is probably traditional folk song.  She moved to California to sing with KITKA Eastern European Vocal Ensemble, and continues to work with KITKA – recently premiering the new folk-opera “Rusalka:  Between the Worlds” that was launched in Ukraine and the U.S. with Mariana Sadovska.  Moira continues to study Irish Sean Nós (old-style) singing and Appalachian ballad and dance-song.  She recorded a solo CD, “Rua”, of Irish, Appalachian and her own songs – “rua” means “red” in gaelic.  With VOCO, Moira fuses a new sound with voices, banjo, cello and percussion that is rooted in traditional song – in 2006 VOCO embarks on a project of arranging Bela Bartók’s “Mikrokosmos” piano miniatures for voices – recently premiered at Disney Hall/CalArts’ REDCAT Theater.

Moira’s been writing music since the age of six – focusing on voices-as-instruments, and in harmony.  Her recent commissions have been by choral ensembles, dance and theatre companies.  In Fall, 2006 she will premiere two voice & movement pieces with TripDance Theatre at the venerable Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles.  A few of her songs are being sung by thousands of high school and college students across the U.S.!  Moira’s soundtracks for St. Louis-based dance-theater company Gash/Voigt and AnnonyArts have produced two lush CDs called “Sacred Ground and “Changing Woman” – the latter written for masked choir and dancers.

Formerly represented by the prestigious IMG Artists (Management Company) in New York, director Moira Smiley is a unique force in the study of voice in culture.  A graduate of Indiana University's School of Music, Moira combines a keen sense of the demands of classical singing with an ongoing study of the traditional singing of several ethnic groups - especially Eastern European, Irish and Appalachian.

Members of Moira Smiley & VOCO have been on faculty, led vocal workshops and residencies at: University of Birmingham (England), California Institute of the Arts, Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), UCLA, UC Santa Cruz, Northwestern University, Scripps College, Warren-Wilson College, Indiana University, Omega Institute, Swannanoah Gathering, California WorldFest, Virginia Arts Festival, Utrecht Early Music Festival, and many others.

June & July: Enneagram Discussion Group

A series of four sessions for participants who are familiar with
the Enneagram and know their Enneagram type **

One of the beauties of the Enneagram system of self-discovery is that there is always the opportunity to learn more.  There is no better way to do this than attending groupsled by a facilitator skilled in the time-honored “narrative tradition”: a method in which participants tell their stories from the point of view of their own Enneagram type. You will learn about yourself, the automatic behaviors of others, and ways to shift to more productive means of interacting with the world around you.  Participants will learn from the facilitator and each other through the sharing of stories and practical exercises.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of an Enneagram community in the Boston Area.
Join Adelaide Smith for four evenings of enlightening exploration and discussion.

This workshop is open to women, men and teens (age 12 and up). Singers new to the exploration of their voice as well as seasoned singers are warmly invited. We will sing, dance, laugh, listen and gather to rekindle the joy inherent in making music together.

This workshop is a fundraiser for Libana and the fee is on a sliding scale. All proceeds will go directly to LIBANA'S current cultural musical project Many Paths to the Spirit. Our current research includes Malaysian drum rhythms, Gujurati Garba melodies, West African dance and Balkan Solstice songs. Your singing this April supports our singing all year and we look forward to sharing this spring Sunday with you!!!!!

Described as a "choir of the goddess", LIBANA'S memorable concerts convey a deep sense of hope, peace, celebration and universal community. For 28 years, this internationally renowned ensemble has illuminated the spirit of women's experience as expressed through music, song and dance from around the globe. LIBANA'S concerts, numerous recordings (including the acclaimed A Circle is Cast) have inspired the formation of song-circles and performance groups worldwide.

Susan Robbins, Libana's Founder and Artistic Director, is also the Director of Third Life Studio.

FUNPLAY INSTITUTE presents
Funplaying with Words!

A Funshop for Adults, with an Introduction to Funplay Dialoguing and Coaching, co-led by Warren Shear and Alexia Lomon.
At this funshop, we will introduce Funplay’s playful, empathetic approach to interactive, verbal dialoguing, coaching and personal problem-solving, as well as moving, sound-making, breathing and touching.
The Funplay Institute has been having a wonderful time in our recent funshops sharing our non-verbal skills, especially in touch, movement and sound. Our discoveries about imitation from our non-verbal play have now created a foundation for funplaying with each other with language.
We have begun ground-breaking experiments funplaying with words and conversation and are finding the same lively, warm connection and understanding that arises from our non-verbal funplay. To our delight, we are finding verbal funplay enhances our intuitive and co-creative impulses and minimizes the pitfalls of misunderstandings in our interactions.March 30, 2007

The Boston Butoh Series is bringing together and highlighting, for the first time, Greater Boston's Butoh-influenced artists.  Each artist will have one evening on a bi-montly basis to perform and present their work.  The series was conceptualized with the intent to bring cohesiveness to this diverse community and to educate our audiences about its local experimental arts community.  There will be opportunities to listen to the artists speak about their work and artistic vision as it relates to their training in Butoh. Designed as an event, the audience is invited to partake in refreshments and interaction with the artists, producer, and other audience members after each show.

Her classes emphasize the technique and structure of the dance and are equally as challenging and beneficial for both leaders and followers. Luciana’s teaching is held in high regard across North America, where she regularly tours to share her knowledge and love of tango. This is an opportunity to study with truly one of the best.
